Studio Brûle creates handmade quilts and other soft goods for the home. Everything is made at a slow burn pace using repurposed fabrics and occasional natural dye experiments.
Founder, Izzie, has long been interested in sewing, sustainable fashion and reducing her environmental impact. Exploring these topics is what led her to learn about the extent of the global textile waste problem, much of which eventually ends up in landfill or incinerators.
While living in the Basque Country in 2019, she also learned that wool farmers were having to burn their wool (brûler = to burn in French) as it would have cost them more to transport it than they would have earned from selling it. Madness.
This extra discovery led to an even deeper passion for repurposing textiles in her creative practice.
There is so much potential to create beauty out of this ‘waste’ and she wants to play her small part keeping materials out of the incinerators. To slow the burn. To take what was once destined to be flames and turn it into creative fuel.
Imaging the possibilities of making in this way has truly lit her flame and so Studio Brûle was born.
